April 2021 Wrap-Up

Hello readers,

April was a pretty good reading month for me. I finished The Space Between Worlds which I started at the end of March, read all the books I had included in my very reasonable TBR and managed to fit in four extra books, including one book for work. I finished three books on the last day of April so I have started the month of May with a clean slate.

Here are the books I read in April:

The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson:

A very interesting concept of multiverses but a disappointing execution for me. I found it a bit confusing. I gave this one 3 stars. You can read my full review here.

The Incendiaries by R.O. Kwon:

Another 3 stars read. I didn’t get on with the writing unfortunately and didn’t find the story that compelling. I was interested by the cult aspect but would have liked the novel to go more into depth about it. You can read my full review here.

Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah:

I initially gave this one four stars but after thinking about it, got my rating down to a three. I just found both main characters a little infuriating but this is a moving story and did bring me to tears. You can read my full review here.

Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy:

This was Sunsoaked Bookworm‘s pick for our bookclub and it was a gorgeous novel about nature, survival and overcoming trauma. Charlotte McConaghy’s writing is incredible. I gave this one four stars. You can read my full review here.

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo:

As I’ve mentioned multiple times before, Nikolai was my favourite character in the Grisha trilogy. I was looking forward to getting a book that focuses on his character and unlike quite a few people, I wasn’t disappointed with this one and gave it four stars. You can read my full review here.

As a sidenote, I also watched Shadow and Bone in April. It took me a couple of episodes to get on board with combining the trilogy and the duology but once I did, I was obsessed. Jesper is 100% more loveable on the show. I am not a super fan of Kaz in the show yet but I’m hoping I will be in the next few seasons (hoping we get more seasons!).

Lettre Ouverte aux Animaux by Frédéric Lenoir:

This title hasn’t been translated to English I’m afraid. It is a short non-fiction book talking about our relationship with animals. Another four stars read for me. Pour mes lecteurs francophones, ma chronique est à venir jeudi prochain.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune:

This book has been everywhere and everyone seems to love it. It was a really lovely read but not quite a new favourite for me. A solid four stars. My review should be out next Sunday.

Heartstopper Volume 1 by Alice Oseman:

And my last read of April was a very quick one. I have heard so many great things about Heartstopper and was curious to check it out. I wasn’t a fan of the illustrations but the story is super sweet so it was another four star read. I am planning on reading the next two books in the series and hopefully the fourth one will be available at my library soon.

My first few reads were a tad disappointing but it got better afterwards. No new favourites but some solid reads. I have a lot of books I am planning to read in May. I’m trying not to overwhelm myself because I don’t want reading to feel like work but it’s hard not to want to read all of the books!
